Patanjali's Yoga Sutras :: download ebook

I recommend checking out the Yoga-Sutras. It's not in Sanskrit, it's in English and it's only five pages. BonGiovanni's translation is quite poetic and leaves a tiny bit to be desired philosophically speaking but it's pretty good and totally will give you an enlightening glimpse to the origin of astanga-yoga, or the eightfold mystic yoga taught by Patanjali. ((Patanjali was a sage who lived about two thousand years ago.))

Here is what caught my attention as I read through it:

1.27. God's voice is Om.
1.28. The repetition of Om should be made with an understanding of its meaning.
1.29. From that is gained introspection and also the disappearance of obstacles.
1.30. Disease, inertia, doubt, lack of enthusiasm, laziness, sensuality, mind-wandering, missing the point, instability - these distractions of the mind are the obstacles.
1.31. Pain, despair, nervousness, and disordered inspiration and expiration are co-existent with these obstacles.

So yeah, if you detect any of these obstacles in your life, try omming them away! Of course it's not just about getting rid of negative stuff. Hearing transcendental sound vibration pierces through the layers of the mind, intelligence and the ego, reaching the atma (the consciousness, self or the soul). Atma is the unique, spiritual person we are beneath all bodily and mental conditionings. The Vedas teach that regularly chanting and hearing transcendental sound will bring that original identity forth more and more, along with deep knowledge. Chanting is also pretty blissful. Anyone who's taken part in a kirtana or done any mantra meditation on their own would probably agree!

Reading these Yoga-Sutras really got me enthusiastic about OM and I did research and want to talk more about its meaning. But alas, I'm in the country with practically no internet. So until next time again, aummm .¸¸.•*¨`*✩❤ Enjoy your book!
