Born in Kyoto Prefecture in November 1863, Makimachi Misao is the granddaughter of the former Okashira of the Oniwabanshuu. She was in the care of the last leader, Shinomori Aoshi, until he, Han’nya, Shikijo, Beshimi, and Hyottoko left her to Kashiwazaki Nenji, also known as Okina of the Oniwabanshuu, when she was eight. She and Okina formed a strong bond, but in her mind, Aoshi was still the best.
