Naruto: Orochimaru

A former ninja of Konohagakure, Orochimaru left and created his own ninja village, Otogakure, in hopes of destroying his former home. During his time in Konohagakure, Orochimaru distinguished himself as one of the village's most powerful ninja. However, his desire for power led him to obtain a means for immortality by transferring between different host bodies, including Uchiha Sasuke due to his powerful genetic heritage.

Bleach: Hinamori Momo 05

When Hinamori’s zanpakuto is released, Tobiume's blade straightens and produces several jitte-like prongs along its length. In this form, Tobiume acts as a focus for Hinamori's spiritual power, concentrating it into energy bursts capable of forming craters as well as breaching walls. She can also compress her power into massive energy balls and throw them from the tip of her blade.

Cosplay Progress - Minene Uryuu Dress

I have finally started making significant progress (enough to warrant a blog post, anyway), so I give you the more-or-less complete Minene Uryuu dress!

Or Uryuu Minene. Whichever. Point being, she likes to blow shit up.

To start, I decided to order a frilly pink dress from Bodyline, because 1) I don't know how to make a dress from scratch and 2) I think I had a hidden desire to completely shred pink lace, because I did so with great pleasure.

So let me begin by saying that I ordered what I later found to be the completely wrong dress for this cosplay. Could I do it over again and save myself much anguish, I would, but instead I took advice from Tim Gunn and decided to "make it work."

Pink is not my friend. Time to take down this lace monstrosity.

It took quite a while to get all of the pink lace off the dress. Here is the result.

I'm pretty sure there was more lace than dress in that thing.

After realizing that the dress was completely not suited to this cosplay and having a brief moment of panic, Mimi had the brilliant idea that I could just turn the dress around backwards so the zipper was in the front and then just alter the neckline from there. Crisis averted! I also cut off the waist tie and altered such that it is a removable velcroed piece.

Just so.

Then I had to take in the sleeves pretty heavily, they were way too wide. I used leftover scraps from the waist tie to make the hairpiece. You know what's awkward? When you walk outside to get the mail and forget you're still wearing that hair accessory.

I can stand in the bathroom and hold a camera in front of my face, too! Look how edgy I am.

I'm sorry. The sarcasm doesn't have an off switch.

So what have I learned while making this cosplay?

1) If you're going to alter clothing, make sure you get the right clothing to begin with.

2) Rulers are your friends.

2) Don't try to sew into the dress while you're still wearing it. Just... don't.

And now I just need to make socks like this. And kick Yuno in the face.

Contact and wig reviews for this cosplay will be forthcoming, mostly because 1) I want to wait as long as I can to open the contacts, and 2)I have learned from bitter experience (read: Medusa) that the less you mess with a wig, the easier your life will be.

Now it is time to work on Black★Gold Saw, also known as "how in the hell am I going to make a six foot sword out of insulation foam."

Shakugan no Shana: Shana 06

In the first volume of the original light novel, Alastor stated that the reason why Shana did not explode after being shot by Friagne's Trigger Happy was because she held a capacity that existed in dimensional space, who was able to contain the Flame of Heaven's. Shana’s duty initially made her indifferent towards human life, but because of Sakai Yuji's influence, she has become slightly more open. Although she still remains confused and disgruntled by some human traits which she considers to be “pointless”, some of it is actually used to mask her jealousy of her desire to monopolize Yuji.

K-On!: Akiyama Mio 03

Akiyama Mio has excellent grades in school and is mature and strict especially towards her childhood friend, Tainaka Ritsu. However, Mio has a weakness against the macabre and horrific, and she is often incapacitated with fear when stories involving ghosts, blood, injuries, haunted houses, barnacles, or any other disturbing topics that come up. She also has a fear of being in the spotlight and gets embarrassed easily, and is the recurrent subject to teasing from Ritsu as well as their their club adviser, Yamanaka Sawako.

This cosplayer looks familiar, but I’m not certain who she is. I’m guessing she’s Kipi, but with her face partially covered by her hand, I can’t be sure. Thanks to Francesca for sending this in!

Bakemonogatari: Senjogahara Hitagi

A weak-looking girl with an “incurable disease”, Senjogahara Hitagi is in the same class as Araragi Koyomi, but she rarely speaks. During her first year of high school, she encountered a mysterious crab, and for whatever reason, she became weightless. She has avoided contact with everyone ever since, and threatens anyone who discovers her secret.

Street Fighter IV: Kasugano Sakura

In 2008, the people behind Street Fighter IV hired cosplayer Takada Hikari (高田光莉) to cosplay Kasugano Sakura for some marketing materials to promote the franchise. Hikari pulled it off very well, and she was only 12 years old at the time this was taken.

PaSwG Photos - Part 3!

This post continues to feature our Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt photoshoot with Jack Liu.  Again, you are awesome Jack!

For this photoshoot, I got to be Chuck.  Mimi devised a sweet little plan for me to be a human interpretation of Chuck in about 30 seconds.  Once the "zippers", collar, tail, and ears were accounted for, I was basically good to go :D.  Now unlike Mimi and Kathryn, who posed with much elegance and glamour, I got to be as un-photogenic as I wanted, haha!  

Oh yeah, work that camera :P

That's right, half-smile like you own the world!

Macross Frontier: Mikhail Blanc

Not only is this character unfamiliar to me, but I can’t even tell if the character is a boy or a girl! But I’m pretty sure the cosplayer is a girl though? If not a very handsome young man!


We have too many blond-haired, blue-eyed characters, so he could be any one of them, but perhaps that jacket will be a vital clue for those of you who like playing this blog game. Thanks to Rhianne for sending this in!

Uta no Prince-sama: Nanami Haruka 02

Despite having dizzy spells from the city’s “noise”, Nanami Haruka enrolled in the prestigious Saotome Academy in the hopes of becoming a composer for her idol, Hayato. Prior to her enrollment, she had no experience in reading sheet music, but she is able to play the piano very well as taught by her grandmother. Haruka proves to be a very talented as the series progresses, even learning how to read sheet music after studying for only one day.

And now for the solo shots! I apologize in advance for what you are about to see. Mimi and I both had props, hers being Honekoneko, and mine being...uh...panties. Yeah. So, thanks again to Jack Liu, our wonderful photographer! Let the awkwardness commence!

Awkward sexy pose is awkward.

But you know what's even more awkward? Panties.

And you know what's even more awkward than that? The maintenance workers who were off camera and wouldn't leave or stop staring at us. Also, you can't tell from the pictures, but wearing those shoes made me feel like I was standing in a nest of angry hornets. For three hours.

Trying to mask the feeling of agonizing pain in my feet.

This was taken right after I accidentally threw my underwear in the photographers face. I'm sorry, Jack. So, so sorry. >_<

There is an explanation, really. He wanted me to try spinning them around my finger and get cool motion shots. Well. I'm not very coordinated at spinning panties around my finger, so they kind of...flew off. In a certain direction. Sigh.

You'd think it couldn't get more awkward. Well, it just did. CLOSE UP TIME.

And the most awkward thing about running around carrying panties while dressed as Panty Anarchy is the implication that I was NOT WEARING UNDERWEAR. Except I was. Wearing underwear. Okay, just crossed the tmi line. Going to go die in a corner now.

And with that finished, I am never writing the word panties again.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Soryu Asuka Langley 07

Miyamura Yuko, Asuka's Japanese voice actress, noted that “Asuka wasn't the most open-hearted character I've ever met… every time I tried to draw myself in closer synchronization, Asuka would never allow herself to sync with ‘me’… One day, I figured out that there was a wall in Asuka's heart.” as translated by William Flanagan. Much later, she included that working on the series was “very hard” and that at times she had “wanted to erase Evangelion.”

I know I featured Kanda Midori as Asuka before, but we didn’t really get to see her face in that photo, and this is the uniform version anyway. Thanks to Daniela for sending this in!

Rozen Maiden Träumend: Kirakishou 02

Kirakishou is the true seventh Rozen Maiden Doll whom Barasuishou was modeled after. According to Shinku, "Her left eye can see everything, but reflects nothing, while her right eye is an empty hole, with a white rose growing out of it." In the anime, Kirakishou’s shoulders are not ball-jointed, presumably because she is an entity that only exists in the N-Field.

Dead or Alive: Lei Fang 03

As she grew up in a wealthy family, Lei Fang has a strong sense of justice and bears a very independent spirit, but is also spunky, intelligent, and cheerful. Practicing martial arts has made her dedicated in improving herself both mentally and physically. Lei Fang hopes that by honing her own skills, she can eventually help others to do the same.
