Meditations in My New Corset

I turned on my laptop and the wireless wasn't working. I thought, "Oh God, the wireless antenna is broken again. It will cost hundreds to fix. I can't do any of my computer work for many days. OMG."

Then I was like, waaait a second. Something unexpected just happened that I perceived as unpleasant. My gut instinct was to nearly pray, "Oh Powers That Be, don't let this thing be broken". Well I actually consciously don't pray for this type of things because that feels a bit…petty.

I restarted the computer and the wireless was fixed. "Thank God!" was my thought. I've been thinking about this for some time now actually. How silly of me to think of unpleasant obstacles or difficult situations as something I need to pray to be free of, or something to let get me down. How can I know that a 'stupid' thing that happens isn't a blessing??

Whether it's my karma burning, a nudge to some new direction, or whatever - I should be as grateful for a 'negative' thing as I am for a 'positive'. As a spiritual creature, I think of God often and do thank Him a lot when amazing things happen. But recently I've started to thank Him and feel gratitude while I'm brushing my teeth, or walking up stairs, or when nothing is really happening. Those moments are just as amazing because He is just as present.

Am I making any sense? Do you like my corset? :)

OMG I'm Famous :: Effie's Heart

I was told I'm on the Effie's Heart blog, in this post. Oooh! I happen to love Effie's Heart. They describe their clothes as classic, radical, modern and practical. I'd add romantic and retroish too. My favorite Effie's Heart item is these sick lace bow ruffle princess capri pants I'm wearing here:

and here:

...and on a million other occasion. We're getting these pants at my work in pink in the spring. Yeahh.

Although I don't clearly understand what "the quick of the soul" refers to, I like this quote by Stella Blum:

"Fashion is so close in revealing a person's inner feelings and everybody seems to hate to lay claim to vanity so people tend to push it away. It's really too close to the quick of the soul."

Fairies Need a Break Too

Nice wallpaper [pardon the language]

I had a day off from anything and everything :) Actually, two days. Except for the past couple of hours, I cheated and worked on a website. But during these two days I
❤ made a song with my finger piano
❤ explored the neighborhood I live in
❤ stumbled on a block party with a DJ stage, lights, balloons and hipster party people
❤ hooped in a nearby park in early morning sunshine
❤ found the above band Mother Mother (check out this song too)
❤ cleaned the house like it's never been cleaned before (because I made an unprecedented mess first)
❤ gawked on three kitties that live in an abandoned house next door (they come out to the roof during the day through a glassless window and their mommy feeds and babysits them)
❤ however one of the kitties fell off the roof today and me and Daniel climbed on this big fence to see how the little one is doing, it's fine but, unable to jump very high, stuck in the alley way below the others but mommy goes there to feed too so no probs)

And I put in motion a project to fill this frame that Carole so gracefully gave me. I guess I'm not doing too well on not doing anything. But it's a good break for the brain to do random seemingly unvital things that just happen.

Kitties and mom. I don't know how this place looks so ghetto, the building I live in is actually very nice. I think I'll name these cuties very soon.

Lolita Style :: or anime or cosplay or whatever it is

I don't really know anything about lolita, anime or manga - when I think of those words, mainly cartoon images of fluffy creatures and big eyed people come to mind. I suppose there's more to it. However, I love the lolita style of dressing that I sometimes see in the streets. It's so fantastic and extravagantly imaginative. These are some cool images I've had on my laptop for a while in my 'pretty things to look at' file. Doesn't everyone have a file like that?! I'd like to get a peek into your files :)

How coincidental actually - I ran into a Goodwill second hand store today for 4 minutes before they closed and found two cute skirts, a long pink one and another shorter light blue one with lace. They will totally go together in a lolita-like feel :) I just wish it wasn't so hot out every single day so I could play more with clothes. Now it just has to be something tiny and practical every day which is getting boooriing. I miss my layers. I guess this pic of me is a bit lolita-ish.

Ok I wikied lolita fashion and found out there are Sweet Lolita, Classic Lolita, Gothic Lolita, and many other style categories. Most of the pics I have here would probably fall under 'sweet'. Here's an example of the gothic. (My other dress here is quite dark lolita don't you think!)

Ok that's it for my midnight ramblings. I'm trying to stay up all night so I can again sleep all day tomorrow and then drive 14 hours to Las Vegas for Thursday's Warped Tour show. What a sane life I lead :D

Don't You Wanna Dress :: Like a Steampunk Princess!?

Belinda of Romantic Threads lives with her husband Mark and baby Taylor Rose in Southern California and she makes the coolest medieval gothic romantic victorian steampunk princess dresses ever. I totally wouldn't mind dressing like this every day every other day.

Which one is your favorite? I can't decide! Maybe the first one. Why did women start wearing pants?

Dark Gothic Me

My photographer sister Minna and I went to our grandparent's house. It's a three centuries old manor and the perfect place for some Dark Arts which you will see below. Also, remember my recent shopping jubilation? This is what I got. I've been exploring the non-color-burst side of myself and, almost to my surprise, feel extremely comfortable and well expressed if that makes sense. Of course it's a bit funny to wear clothes that are generally associated with heavy metal music and such as that's probably the only type of music I don't listen to. Oh well never say never. Who knows where this road will take me. Yes, no boxes please. Yes, be free. Yes, it snows in the Finnish spring.
