Dreamcatcher Drama

Remember a while back when I posted the instructions on how to make a dreamcatcher? My sister Kaisu wrote it as she's expert at all fabulous nature things. Here's a reminder of a snowy catcher she made:

I wanted to make one too and followed Kaisu's instructions, step by step. Somehow I just couldn't figure it out:

I posted this pic on my Facebook and inspired my other sister Minna to make her first dreamcatcher:

As you can see, her catcher is quite multisupernovadimensional, and has a dried flower on it. Here's Minna's story:

Here's my first dreamcatcher. I walked in the forest next to our house with the flute ready in my mouth, to play a little thank you song for the tree. As soon as I step in the forest, even before I played anything, I found a perfect bending branch in the ground, so I didn't even have to cut it from a living tree. I continued walking in the forest a little bit, playing the flute, trying few sticks from the ground, they all broke when bending them. Then I saw a tin box in the ground, took it to the trash and decided my exchange with the forest wouldn't end more perfectly ♥
Seeing all this dreamcatching going down, our mom Heini got inspired as well and made her first one:

That's a cute little bird bead in the middle. That bird punatulkku is very common in Finland, bullfinch in English.

Mom made another one with moss from the forest:

Craftically speaking, I have decided to move on and leave dreamcatchers to those who have what it takes. This is my new project that's spread out all over the living room floor:

Tomorrow my friend Danielle will borrow me her sewing machine and I'll be able to really get cracking. I'll let you know if anything comes out of this. I'm very excited though. Do you have any crafts or arts projects/ideas you've been planning or working on lately?

I Woke Up in Finland Today

I arrived in Finland yesterday and my sister Minna gave me a pretty Egyptian hand jewelry made by some beduin fairies. She also brought back this head thing I wore yesterday. For the plane I premeditated to go with a gothic look so that it would be kind of a double whammy for the people sitting next to me since my plane reading was the Quran. Yeah I know this may not be funny but I just think it is. "Will she kill us all or not?" Hee hee :D

BTW I love what I read so far in the Quran, it's really good. Just a few pages into it it talks about vegetarianism and reincarnation, I noticed. Hmmm!

So how do I know I'm home, in the house where I grew up, surrounded by the loveliest funniest realest people? I woke up this morning and walked to the kitchen and saw donuts in the toaster. That's how.

Kaisu sister made them from scratch, froze some of them, and now evidently wanted to melt a couple. Here's my mom Heini. Who shares a love for baggy green pants just as I do. She's looking at a mess I already made with my suitcase and stuff.

Kaisu is a teaholic and made me meadowsweet tea this morning. She picks all kinds of flowers and herbs that grow wild, dries them and jars them. I'm still trying to wake up. One word: jetlag.

Oh and Kaisu made this most beautiful welcome for my Krishna deities that I always bring with me, serve and take care of wherever I travel. When I got here yesterday Kaisu was still at school so I went to her room where she has a little altar to put my Deities there. And saw these cute little hoods that she made so my deities would stay warm in chilly Finland! ♥ And a bowl of laddu sweets was also waiting for Them. Awww :)

Here's her whole beautiful devotional altar, in the corner of her room.

Ok I'm going to go see some relatives and grandparents right now, first stop by at a hardware store to buy tubing to make a hoop for myself, and a friend too actually, and anyone who wants a hoop in Finland, let me know! And tonight I'll go fairyspotting. I'll bring my camera so you all can get a peak too.

Meet My Parents

Continuing the 30 Days posts on set topics.

Day 4 - Your parents

I've always had a very warm and good relationship with my parents. I love them :) They would always support me in everything (except maybe some really dumb stuff). They still do. Of course, my dad passed away last year. But I feel his positive, always supportive and encouraging spirit vividly when I think about him. His name is Kauko, but everyone calls him Kake (pronounced Kah-keh). Since babyhood he instilled in me an everlasting fondness for Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Jimmy Hendrix, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, The Ramones, the Woodstock, kindness, Native Americans, the sea, and a lot more, but perhaps most importantly, being your own person. Thank you.

My mom is Heini. She's so cool. And sweet. The way she dresses is awesome. She's super expert yet insecure cook and makes the best Finnish and Indian and everything-in-between vegetarian food. Simply her cooking makes me miss Finland. Heini jogs and runs and always has many things going on. When she was pregnant with me she would listen to classical music because she heard that such music makes the baby wise. Can't hurt to try right? Thanks mom so much :)

In conclusion, you gotta have pretty kickass parents if one of the first things you ever learnt to speak, in anticipation of dancing in the living room for hours, was: "Soita klokkia tai klekeitä!" which translates to "Play rock or reggae!" [insert funny baby r's]
